Mythicworlds celebrates World Myths and World Creators: the amazing artists who see places and visions that exist beyond human senses and bring them to vibrant, tangible life with words and images for us to discover, explore and even inhabit. The thresholds to these Otherlands may lie in books, music, paintings, media or even our own landscapes, but all are very real and can become a destination where our heart and soul find a home.
Morpheus will be joining a stellar lineup of speakers, artists and musicians at this gathering of the Otherworldly and mythic.
I DESTINE A DESTINY: GEIS-PRAYERS, OATHS AND BINDING MAGIC
Celtic tales tell of heroes doomed to destruction by breaking a geis, or ritual taboo. But there is much more to the geis in Celtic tradition than a simple taboo. Delving into the lore of the geis, we find a deep tradition that connects oath-making, ritual dedication, fate-binding, and verbal sorcery. At the center of these traditions stand fierce Otherworldly deities, binding the fates of warriors and sovereigns. This workshop will explore the lore and practice of oaths, geis-prayers, and binding magic, and how these tools can strengthen our own practices today.
AGAINST AN UNJUST KING: CELTIC MAGICS FOR JUSTICE
Celtic traditions center sovereignty and the rituals of kingship, but they also contain many tales of the magics by which an unjust ruler might be brought low. From the deadly poetry of satire, to the wounding spells of the druidic corrguinecht, the harrowing scream of a woman’s suffering that carried a curse against the men who wronged her, and the spiritual retribution of the hunger strike, this workshop will explore methods of magical redress against oppression and injustice.
MEETING THE BATTLE GODDESSES OF THE CELTS
They appear as ravens, wolves, horses, unearthly women cloaked in red, and many other forms. They may offer aid, counsel and protection to their people in battle, yet they also stir up strife and bring conflict. They teach warriors to prepare, and they speak the fates that end their lives. Goddesses of battle loom large in the cultures of the Celtic world, holding sovereignty, protection, and Otherworldly magic. This workshop will introduce you to this constellation of ancient Goddesses of Ireland, Britain, and Gaul, the relationships between them, and how you can enter into relationship with them.
