This medallion is adorned with an original Raven design combining Norse and Celtic style elements.
Ravens are beloved in totemic and devotional mythologies around the world. We know them as the battle-birds of the Morrigan, the givers of oracles and omens, and the devourers of the slain. We know them as the birds of Lugh, messengers, watchers and psychopomps. We know them as a form of Bran the Blessed. We know them as the two birds of Odhinn, Huginn and Muninn, Thought and Memory. The Valkyrja, divine battle maidens in the Norse cosmology who claimed the souls of heroes on the battlefield, were often imagined as raven-women. Ravens appear in many creation myths as bringers of light, fire, wisdom, and magic, as well as tricksters and teachers of wisdom.
In the natural world, Ravens and their other relatives in the Corvid family are known worldwide for cleverness, intelligence, inventiveness, and play. Ravens are known to use tools, to develop semantic language, to recognize faces, to pass on learned knowledge and skills within their clan groups. They are brilliant problem-solvers and among the most resilient of animals. They are also among the most playful of creatures, displaying behaviors that can only be recognized as humor, delighting in flight even in the stormiest of skies.
This Raven medallion’s design is drawn from Celtic and Norse art from coins, carved stones, jewelry, and other artifacts. Its bright-eyed stare captures the curiosity, intelligence and mystery of the Raven. You can wear or display this creature to invoke the magical qualities of the Raven, and to honor these ancient traditions.
Talisman is etched in 18-gauge copper, 1.5″ in diameter.
Our copper talismans are hand etched in small runs with careful attention. Talismans are individually hand-detailed, so each pendant is slightly different and unique. We hang them on leather cord hand-woven into a Celtic-style knotwork ornament. The artist, Morpheus, personally consecrates all the talismans on her home altar.
