This is an online auction for the sale of original artwork by myself, Morpheus Ravenna.
Offered here is an original acrylic on cradled wood panel work, dated 2016, titled “Manannán”, 6″x 8″ size.
About the Artwork:
I painted this piece as a devotional icon for Manannán during the winter of 2016. It has held pride of place in shrines dedicated to Manannán in my practice and in Celtic polytheist temple spaces created by the Coru Priesthood. His full name, Manannán Mac Lir, means Manannán Son of the Sea. A liminal, trickster-like deity associated with magic, Otherworld travel, and the Isle of Man, he is said to navigate the ocean in a ship called Wave-Sweeper, drawn by sea-foam horses, and he had a cloak that wrapped him in illusions and invisibility. His pose in this painting is partly inspired by the famous Irish statue, and he is accompanied by a crane, one of the animals associated with him.
This piece is hand-painted in acrylics on a cradled wood panel, using metallic colors and accents that catch the glow of light, intentionally following the style of devotional icons. The panel is 6″ by 8″, with a wide cradled back, which allows the icon to stand upright on an altar or shrine; or it can easily be hung on a wall.
Auction will be open for bids for 10 days. A reserve price is set above the opening bid; painting will not be sold unless bids reach the reserve price. The auction software will allow you to enter proxy bids: this means you can enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay, and the system will automatically outbid other bidders in minimum increments (while keeping your maximum bid amount private) until the auction ends or the bidding surpasses your maximum bid.
I am also making a buy-it-now option available at a price substantially higher than the reserve, in case of a buyer with enough funds who doesn’t wish to wait and bid. Buy-it-now option for this painting is set at $250.
At completion of the auction, the artist and winning bidder will both sign a contract of sale. The buyer will receive permanent ownership of the original physical work only; all copyright and rights of reproduction will be retained by the artist. After the contract is signed by both parties, an invoice will be sent to the buyer for payment. Buyer will have a period of 7 days to sign the contract and submit payment for the artwork. After contract is signed and payment received the artwork will be shipped to you.
Auction reserve price includes all domestic shipping costs. If the winning bidder is located outside the 48 contiguous US states, additional shipping costs will apply, and an estimate of shipping cost can be supplied to you on request. Sales tax is additional for bidders within the state of California.
